7 year old discovered YouTube and now won't stop

My son found YouTube Kids and suddenly every free minute he wants to watch videos about building in Minecraft or whatever. I limited it to an hour a day but he's constantly asking for more. My wife thinks I'm being too strict. Is an hour reasonable for his age or am I being a helicopter parent? What screen time limits do you guys use?
