9 year old wants a phone what do I do

He says all his friends have one and honestly some of them do. I'm not ready for this yet but my wife thinks we should get him one with limits on it. What age did you guys let your kids have phones? Any recommendations for good parental control apps that actually work?

The 'all his friends have one' line gets old real fast. I told my kids they could earn one through chores and grades, made it mean something. Limits sound smart though, at least you and your wife are on the same page working it out.

My wife and I did the phone compromise at 10 with our oldest. Set strict time limits and keep the password, then actually stick to it. Your kid will survive without one for another year, trust me.
