Looking for actual educational app recommendations that my kids don't hate using. Khan Academy seems legit but wanted to know if any of you have experience with it for elementary/middle school math. Does it actually help or is it just another screen to stare at? Would rather spend money on something that works than waste it on 5 different apps.
The free version is solid enough to start. I'd say try that first for a month before paying. My 5th grader uses the free tier and does like 2-3 lessons a week and it's genuinely helping her catch up on some gaps from when she was sick.
Honest take: Khan is great for reference and practice IF your kid is self-motivated. My 7yo needs more of the interactive hands-on stuff. We use Khan + some worksheets + math games and that combo works.
The Khan videos are probably the best teaching tool on the platform, not the practice part. If your kids will actually watch them then yeah it's worth it. A lot of kids just want to skip to the problems though.
lol same - tried like 5 apps before Khan stuck. My kid actually asks to do math now which I never thought I'd see. The progress tracking is solid too so you can actually see what's clicking and what isn't.
Khan is free which is honestly the best part. My 4th grader got frustrated with math at school and doing Khan problems at home actually made him feel less behind. Recommend it hard.
Khan Academy is genuinely solid. My 6th grader uses it and actually understands the concepts instead of just memorizing. The videos are short, the practice problems actually help, and there's no weird gamification nonsense to distract from learning.
Khan Academy saved us. My 6th grader was struggling with fractions and the video explanations actually made sense to him vs what the teacher was doing. The practice problems have that instant feedback loop kids seem to like. We pay for the full version and it's worth it.
Curious - are you using it to supplement or replace what school is doing? We tried replacing school math with Khan last year and it was a disaster. Now we use it just for practice and it's way better.
We use it but honestly my 8yo gets bored after like 15 mins. Has he tried IXL? Different vibe, more gamified but the repetition actually helped with the times tables nightmare we were having.

We tried Khan, IXL, ABCMouse... Khan is the one my kids actually go back to without me forcing it. Idk what it is but the format just works for elementary math.
