My kids are at school all day and I work from home with computers. Been thinking about locking down what they can access when they get home just as a baseline filter. Don't need anything military-grade, just something that blocks obvious stuff and maybe time-limits on certain sites. Anything solid out there or am I better off just setting router-level controls?
Qustodio is what we use. It's not military-grade but it's way more granular than Family Link. You can block sites by category, set time limits, see browsing history. Good balance between protection and not being paranoid.
This is good thinking but also - remember that whatever you set up, clever 10+ year olds can often figure out. The tech is a baseline but conversations about WHY matter more than the filter itself.
Honestly for basic filtering, Google Family Link (free) or Apple Screen Time are solid. If you want something more robust that covers both Mac and Windows, check out Bark or Qustodio. They're not super expensive and actually pretty comprehensive.

How old are the kids? Because filters are super different at 6 vs 12 vs 15. At elementary age you can probably get away with basic stuff. Middle school gets trickier.
