Caught my 13 year old with a secret TikTok account
He's got a public one we monitor and we're cool with it. But I found out he has a second private one he's been hiding. Didn't hack or snoop, his friend's mom mentioned it to my wife. Now we have to have the trust conversation. He's going to say everyone does it. I get that he wants privacy but he's 13 and I'm his parent. How do I handle this without making him feel like I don't trust him, while also making sure he's not getting into something dangerous? This stuff is harder than my own childhood.
Good call not hacking his phone. At 13 some privacy is normal, but the hiding part is the real issue here. Sit down and talk about why he felt he needed to hide it rather than just jumping to punishment.
