Chromebook for school - when do you actually monitor it?

School gave my 7th grader a Chromebook and he says teachers monitor it during the day but what about after school? Am I supposed to check his browsing history every night? Feel like that might be overkill but also don't want him ending up on sites he shouldn't be on. What's the right balance between privacy and safety?
