There's a summer camp in our area (Boston) that teaches Unreal Engine to 14+ kids. My 14yo is interested but it's expensive (~$2k for 2 weeks) and I'm wondering if it's actually worth it or if he'd learn the same stuff from YouTube tutorials. Anyone have kids who did these summer coding programs? Did they stick with it?
Boston has some solid tech camps. My nephew did one through Northeastern and he's still talking about it two years later. Good sign that kids stick with it.
Do you know if they actually let kids keep projects or is it more of a demonstration thing? Asking because my kid gets discouraged if he can't take something home to show people.
That Unreal Engine camp sounds legit. My son did something similar last summer and he came away actually understanding what goes into game design instead of just thinking games appear out of nowhere. Totally worth it if your kid is interested.
How much is it running you? We're looking at some coding stuff for our daughter but the prices around here are honestly insane for what you get.

Real talk though, make sure he actually wants to go and isn't just saying yes because he likes video games. There's a big difference between loving games and wanting to learn the technical side. Maybe talk through what he actually gets out of it first.
