Been looking at Code.org and some of those summer coding camps in the Denver area. My 11yo is interested but I can't tell if it's genuine or if he just likes the idea of it. Anyone have kids who did coding programs? Did they stick with it? The camps are like $400-500 for a week which feels steep but maybe it's a good investment?
Honestly at 11 coding camps are hit or miss. Depends on the instructor and group size. I'd say do Code.org for a month or two first and see if he sticks with it. If he's still talking about it constantly then yeah, spring for the camp.
We did a summer camp in the Springs two years ago and our oldest loved it. Paid about 400 for a week. He still makes little games on his laptop now. So in our case worth it, but again not all kids are wired the same way.
Not a waste if your kid actually enjoys it but I've seen too many parents throw money at something their kid thinks is cool for like 20 minutes. The free stuff first approach is the way to go for testing the waters.

Code.org is solid and free so definitely start there before dropping cash on camps. My kid did their course last year and it actually stuck with him. The Denver camps seem pricey but if he's genuinely interested and not just "dad wants him interested" then it could be worth a week.
What kind of camps are you looking at? The multi-week ones or just a week? I found that my kid needed at least a week to not feel completely lost, especially if the instructors go fast.
