Concerned about my 11 year old and TikTok

She's on TikTok way more than I like and when I try to talk about limiting it she shuts down. Her friends are all on it and I don't want her to feel left out but some of the content is not great. Talked to her mom and she thinks I'm overreacting. Should I put parental controls on her phone or is that going to destroy our trust?

The friend group thing is real though. If all her friends are on TikTok and she's the only one who can't access it she'll feel super isolated. Maybe instead of banning it, you set specific times and durations? Like 30 minutes after homework?

Yeah this is tricky because if you come down too hard she'll just hide it or resent you. My daughter's at that age too and I've found it helps to ask questions about what she's watching instead of just saying no. Keeps the dialogue open.

Have you talked to her about what she's actually watching? That might help you understand the appeal and also give you real concerns to discuss with her if something sketchy is showing up. Sometimes kids feel heard if you ask instead of forbid.
