Daughter found out about screen time tracking app

She's 13 and discovered I had Bark on her phone. Felt like such a creepy dad moment but also I found some concerning stuff - random dudes trying to add her on Instagram, some older boy sending her weird messages. We talked about it and I admitted I was checking up on her. She was mad at first but I think she actually felt safer knowing I had her back. Now we have an agreement where I don't check it obsessively and she tells me if anything weird happens. Trust but verify, right?

The concerning stuff you found is the real story here, not the app itself. A 13yo needs to know you've got her back, even if she doesn't like how you're doing it. Sit down and explain what you actually found and why it matters.

Man, that's tough but you did the right thing catching those dudes trying to contact her. Yeah she's mad now, but finding that stuff is exactly why you had it there. Just gotta have the conversation about why you care, not trying to be creepy.
