Did anyone else crack on the phone thing?

I told my kids no phones until high school. That lasted until my 10 year old needed to coordinate with friends for soccer. Now he has a basic iphone and I'm paranoid constantly. Monitoring everything, bought parental controls, the whole thing. Anyone successfully navigate giving phones without losing your mind over it?
