I've got Apple's family sharing set up with screen time limits, app restrictions, all that stuff. It works okay but my 11yo is constantly asking for exceptions ("but all my friends have this app"). Feel like I'm managing permissions instead of actually parenting sometimes. Is this normal?
Family sharing works until it doesn't lol. My 11yo found a workaround after like 3 weeks. I'm less strict about it now and just... check in about what she's actually doing on there
We use it and honestly the screen time reports are the most useful part. Actual limits? She works around them constantly. But knowing she spent 90 mins on TikTok yesterday helps me have better conversations with her
Consider maybe having set exception days instead of her asking constantly? Like 'Saturdays you get 30 mins extra' or something. Takes away the negotiation part
The 'all my friends have this app' is the eternal refrain. I started asking him to name the actual friends and most of the time it's like... two kids max. That framing helped

Using it! It's not perfect but it beats the alternative of no visibility. Yeah my kid pushes back on limits but at least I know what's happening. The exceptions thing is where I had to set a hard rule though - 'I'll answer this Sunday, stop asking til then'
