Quick win - we made a new family rule that phones stay in a basket during dinner and before bed. First week was rough but now the kids actually talk to us. My 12yo even asked to extend the rule. No idea why this wasn't obvious to me earlier but highly recommend if you're in the same boat.
That's awesome. The basket method works great and once they get used to actually talking at dinner everything changes. You nailed it.

We do the same basket thing and it's genuinely been a game changer for dinner conversations. Plus I'm not seeing the blue light hitting everyone's face which is nice. How long did it take before the kids stopped asking for their phones?
How are you handling the bedtime part? We've been struggling to get the phones out of the bedroom at night and the kids keep sneaking them back.
