Found him watching weird stuff on youtube

My 8 year old was supposed to be watching something educational but I checked the history and hes watching some random unboxing channels and toy reviews which isnt bad I guess but how deep does that rabbit hole go? YouTube kids seems locked down but hes figured out how to get around it. Im considering just banning it but then hes bored and wants to do other stuff thats probably worse. Feel like Im constantly playing defense here.

This is why I stick with approved content lists. Takes time to set up but worth it so you're not constantly monitoring. Just tell him here's what he can watch and that's it.

Yeah the unboxing stuff is basically junk food for kids. I stopped fighting it and instead told mine he can watch like 20 minutes after he does something I actually want him learning about first.

Don't stress too much about it. Eight year olds are gonna find the dumb stuff anyway. Just set some clear time limits and maybe talk about why educational content matters without being preachy about it.

Yeah you gotta check that history regularly. My 6 year old ended up watching some weird animation rabbit hole stuff that was clearly not for kids. Now everything goes through YouTube Kids only.

Oh man this is my nightmare. What kind of stuff was he watching? I've got my kid on pretty strict YouTube restrictions now because of this exact reason.

Have a real conversation with him about it without getting mad. Sometimes kids just click on stuff out of curiosity. Find out what he was actually interested in and redirect to something appropriate.
