Found my 8yo on some weird discord server

Was looking at his tablet for something and noticed he's been in Discord chats with random people. He says they're just talking about Minecraft but I have no idea if that's true. Now I'm paranoid about what he's doing online. Do I monitor everything or am I being that parent? This is harder than I thought.

This is exactly why I check my kids' devices regularly. Discord can be sketchy for that age. Have you talked to him about who these people are? Might be worth understanding if they're school friends or randoms.

Yeah that's concerning. I'd definitely talk to him about internet safety and maybe look into the server settings. Discord has some stuff specifically for younger users but a lot of kids just join whatever.

Eight is pretty young for Discord honestly. Did you check what the server is actually about? Could be innocent gaming stuff or could be something you need to shut down. Either way good catch.

My 9 year old tried this too. I made him show me everything on there and then we set up parental controls. Turns out it was just his friend group from school but still good to monitor.
