So I was helping my son troubleshoot his laptop and noticed Discord in his taskbar. Turns out he's been in some gaming server with like 200 people and hasn't told us. He got defensive when I asked about it. Should I be worried? Is Discord okay for this age or am I being paranoid? He says all his friends are in it.
This is getting harder as they get older right? My oldest is heading that direction and I'm trying to figure out how to balance being a parent and respecting their privacy. The secret part is what I'd address first.
Finding the secret Discord is actually not the worst outcome. At least you found it now and can talk about it before things escalate. I'd be curious what he was using it for. Gaming community or something else?
Oof this hits different now that I'm thinking about the future with my kids. How old is your son? Just trying to gauge when this becomes a real issue I need to prepare for.

This is tough man. The Discord itself isn't necessarily bad but the fact that it was secret is worth having a conversation about. I'm not quite at this point with my kids but I'm dreading it. How are you handling the conversation?
