He's 12. Said he got it because his friends have it and he felt left out. We talked about it for like an hour. Decided he can keep it but we added him as a friend and we check it. He seemed annoyed but understood. Not sure if we're handling this right but at least he's being honest now.
We struggled with similar stuff in our house. The key is not coming down too hard because then they just get sneakier. Sounds like you handled it the right way by actually listening to him.
