Found out my kid has a YouTube channel I didn't know about

My 11yo has been making videos with his friends and posting them without asking. Nothing inappropriate but I'm frustrated he did this behind my back. Signed him up for parental controls but now he thinks I'm being unreasonable. Trying to figure out the balance between giving him independence and making sure he's safe online. Any suggestions on how to approach this conversation?

This is a good sign actually - he's being creative and making stuff with his friends. I'd sit down and talk to him about asking first before posting, but don't shut it down completely. At 11 they need to explore and try new things.

The sneaking around part is the real issue here, not the channel itself. Have a conversation about trust and communication rather than just laying down rules. That usually works better with kids that age.
