Found TikTok on 9yo iPad - how strict should I be?

I gave my 9 year old a basic iPad for homework and watching YouTube. Today I noticed TikTok installed and he's been scrolling for who knows how long. He said a friend showed him how to get it. I'm not even sure what the right move is here. Do I delete it? Have a talk? Let him use it with time limits? Would love to hear what age you guys thought was appropriate for social media apps.

I'd hit the parental controls hard on that one. A 9yo doesn't need TikTok, period. You can lock it down pretty tight on iOS so he can't install stuff without your approval. Nip it early.

Don't feel bad, this happens to a lot of us. The question is less about being strict and more about setting clear boundaries now before it becomes a habit. Maybe a conversation about what apps are okay for homework.

Why did the 9yo download TikTok? Because parental controls are like dad jokes - nobody sets them up until it's too late. Seriously though, lock it down.
