Gaming addiction or normal kid stuff?

My 12 year old wants to play Fortnite with his friends like 4 hours a day on weekends. His argument is that all his friends are doing it and he's missing out on social stuff. I limited it to 2 hours and he literally cried about it. My wife thinks I'm being too strict but I feel like that's way too much screen time. What are you guys doing with your kids? Is there a right answer here or am I just being an old man about it?
