Gaming addiction or normal kid stuff
My 13 year old has been asking for a gaming PC for months. I finally caved because he's doing okay in school and he saves his own money. Now he's staying up until 2am on weekends playing Fortnite with his friends online. His grades are still good but I'm worried about the sleep and also just... is this healthy? I don't understand the appeal. To me it looks like staring at a screen for hours but he insists it's social and I'm trying to be the cool dad who gets it. Where's the line?
My gut says you need some kind of agreement in place. Like screen time limits, homework first policy, all that stuff documented before he's too invested in it. Just learned this the hard way with my oldest.
Gaming isn't inherently bad but 13 is still young enough that you can shape the habits. Set the boundaries now while you have leverage, way harder to do later.
