Gaming as a bonding thing, is that weird

My 11yo got into Minecraft and honestly I play with him sometimes. It's like the only time he actually talks to me about stuff without me having to pull teeth. We'll build things together for an hour and he just opens up. Wife thinks I should be doing other things but this feels like our thing, you know? Anyone else game with their kids or am I just justifying too much screen time.

That's not weird at all man. I play games with my kids too and some of my best conversations with them happen while we're playing. It's just a different setting than sitting down to talk, but the connection is real.

Honestly that sounds amazing. My oldest is into Fortnite and I tried getting into it but I'm terrible. Still worth it though because he actually wants me around. Take that bonding however you can get it.

Not weird at all. My 11yo and I have been doing Minecraft stuff together too and it's become our thing. Plus you're supervising what he's doing instead of just letting him disappear into screens, which is honestly the win here.
