Gaming group chats are out of control

My son plays Fortnite with his friends online and theyre constantly in discord or whatever. Last night I heard some kid screaming profanities through the headset. I talked to him about it and he says thats just normal. Sometimes I feel like I have no control over what hes being exposed to when hes in these voice chats with random kids. Do you guys monitor this stuff? How do you draw the line between letting them have social time and protecting them from garbage?

Yeah the discord thing is rough. I had to have a real talk with my oldest about muting or leaving when things get toxic. Setting boundaries early helps way more than trying to police every chat.

Kids think that stuff is normal gaming culture but it's not acceptable. I let mine know that if he can't keep it respectful or mute the chaos, the games take a break. Took a couple weeks but he got it.

This was us too. I told my kids gaming hangouts stop at 9pm on school nights. They didn't like it at first but they adjusted. The chats can wait till morning.

Set some boundaries on when he can be in the chat. After a certain time each night just no Discord or game chat. He'll survive and honestly probably sleep better.

Discord is wild for the gaming stuff. My son's got the same issue with Fortnite friends in group chats. They're talking 24/7 about the game and it's constant notifications.
