Had a scare with a stranger online - still shaking

My 11yo son was in a public Roblox game chatting and some dude started asking where he lived and what school he went to. I was doing dishes, didn't see it happening. He came and told me immediately which is good but it freaked me OUT. We've talked about stranger danger but I feel like I've been way too relaxed about monitoring his games. Anyone have a system for keeping tabs on this stuff without being creepy about it?

The fact that you check in on their gaming is huge. So many parents have no idea what their kids are doing online. You probably prevented something bad from happening.

Did you have to do anything with law enforcement or just block the account? I'm trying to understand what the actual options are if this happens to us.

The shaking thing is real. When something happens to your kid online it hits different than you'd expect. Glad you're okay now and that he's safe.

Public Roblox games are rough for this reason. My kids asked to play and I looked at the chat for five minutes and noped out. The moderation isn't what it should be.

This is my biggest fear with my kids online. How did your son react when you told him someone was being inappropriate? I'm trying to figure out how to have this conversation without freaking him out too much.
