My wife thinks 30 mins a day is the max, I think an hour is reasonable on school nights. We've been going back and forth about this forever. He's begging for a Switch and I'm not sure if we're ready. What's everyone doing? Are we being too strict or is my wife right? He's not glued to screens constantly but on weekends if we let him he'd probably play for hours.
An hour on school nights feels like a lot to me, but I get wanting some flexibility. The real question is what happens during that time and whether it's cutting into sleep or other stuff. Maybe try the 30 min thing for a week and see if it actually makes a difference in their behavior?
Our rule is no screens on school nights, and my wife and I actually agreed on that from day one so we weren't fighting about it. Might be worth finding that middle ground together first before making rules for the kid.
This is exactly what I've been wrestling with. My wife and I were on opposite ends too. We landed on 45 minutes on school nights and up to an hour on weekends, but every kid is different. What matters more is what they're watching and that you guys are on the same page.
We've been through this battle. My take? Start with 30 and see if life improves. If it does, you've got your answer. If not, bump it up. But going straight to an hour feels like you're already compromising before you've tried the stricter limit.
