My kid wants to play Minecraft constantly and honestly it keeps him occupied while I'm trying to get dinner ready or work from home. But I feel guilty about it. We've been letting him have maybe 2 hours on weekends and 45 minutes on school nights. Is that too much? Other parents seem to just let their kids play all day.
Honestly Minecraft is one of the better games for kids that age. At least he's building something instead of just consuming content. I'd say under 2 hours on school nights is reasonable though.
For a 7 year old I'd say 1 to 2 hours max on school days, maybe a bit more on weekends. Minecraft is actually not the worst because at least there's some creativity in it, unlike just scrolling. That said, balance is everything.
The occupied kid thing I totally understand but watch it doesn't become the default babysitter. I had to dial it back when I realized my son preferred Minecraft to playing outside with me.

I get it, Minecraft keeps them busy while you're handling stuff. The trick is setting boundaries early. Our rule is after homework done, limited screen time, then outside time. It works most days.
