How much screen time is too much?

My kids are 5 and 8. We do maybe an hour a day on weekends, nothing on school nights except sometimes a movie as a family thing. But I feel like we're probably stricter than most of their friends' parents. My wife and I talked about it and we decided we'd rather deal with them being bored sometimes than turning into zombies. Anyone else doing no screens on school nights or is that crazy?

That's actually really balanced. We go stricter on school days but weekends are a bit more relaxed. As long as it's not all day I think you're in the clear.

You're doing better than most honestly. We've struggled with this but the rule of no screens on school nights has made such a difference in bedtime. Worth the fight.

An hour on weekends seems totally reasonable. I do similar with my 5 and 8 year olds. The no school nights rule is solid too. We mostly do books and outdoor stuff after school.

One hour total or per kid? Because that changes things for me. Either way sounds like you've got a good system though.
