My son's school gives them chromebooks and homework apps so he's on screens for like 2-3 hours on school days. Then he wants to play Roblox after dinner. I'm trying to limit it but feel like the genie is already out of the bottle. What are you guys doing? Are you strict about it or just letting them have at it?
With three kids I've learned the hard way that it's not just about the total hours but what time of day. If Roblox is happening right before bed, that's a bigger issue than the total number. Maybe shift it earlier or just keep it to weekends?
Those chromebooks are rough. My boys hit the screens hard during the day too, so we pretty much enforce no screens after dinner except maybe weekends. Gets him outside or doing something else before bed anyway.
Yeah man, the school screen time is basically out of our control at this point. I'd say if he's getting 2-3 hours from school, cap the after-dinner stuff to like 30-45 minutes max. That's what we do with our two and it seems reasonable.
School chromebooks are a different beast than recreational screen time. You can't really fight that battle. The key is what happens after school hours. We try to keep it limited in the evenings.
Have you tried breaking up the evening time with no screens? Like dinner tech-free and then maybe some screen time later? That's what we do to balance out the school day.
That's tough because the school stuff is mandatory so you can't really limit it without affecting his schoolwork. We have the same situation and I just try to keep evening screen time separate.

Yeah the school stuff adds up fast. By the time we account for homework apps and chromebooks my kids are at screen time without me really pushing it. It's something I've had to accept.
