Just got my 7 year old a Switch for his birthday and want to make sure he's not downloading random stuff or playing games I haven't approved. I set up a parental controls account but honestly the menu system is confusing as hell. Anyone done this before? What settings do you recommend? Want to block the eShop mostly.
The Switch parental controls are pretty straightforward once you get in there. Set spending limits, game age ratings, and keep the PIN somewhere he won't find it. Future you will be glad you locked this down early.
Nintendo's parental controls are actually solid. Go to System Settings > Parental Controls and set it up on your account. You can limit playtime by the hour which is clutch. Also keep game purchases locked down.
Good call locking it down early. I wish I'd done this before my kids figured out how to add games on their own. You can also see playtime reports which helps you know what they're actually playing.
Pro tip: set up a separate child account for him and link it to yours. Makes controlling everything way easier. The passcode thing is essential because seven year olds are sneaky.

Good thinking ahead on this. Nintendo has solid parental controls built in, but definitely spend some time in the settings so you know exactly what restrictions are active. Your 7 year old will try to work around them later.
