iPad as babysitter while cooking dinner

I work all day and come home to cook dinner. My 5 and 7 year old go nuts while I'm trying to not burn everything. Throwing them on an iPad for 30-45 mins while I prep and cook feels necessary for my sanity. But then I read articles about how screen time is ruining their brains. Anyone else do this or am I messing up my kids?

Some dads ban screen time, some dads need to eat dinner without burning the house down. Both are valid. You're doing fine.

I get it, man. Cooking dinner with kids around is chaos. An iPad for 30-45 minutes isn't going to ruin them, and honestly you've got four kids so you know what real parenting trade-offs look like.
