Is 2 hours screen time on weekends reasonable for 8yo?

My son has been bugging me for more gaming time on Saturdays and Sundays. Right now we do about 1.5 hours total per day on school days and I've been letting him do 2 hours on weekends. My wife thinks that's too much but I figure it's the weekend so why not. What do other dads do? Are we being too lenient or is this pretty standard?

I'd say go for it but with conditions. Maybe he has to earn it through the week somehow. Our rule is no screens until homework and chores are done, then they get their weekend time. Makes them feel like they worked for it.

2 hours sounds solid to me. We started at 1.5 and bumped to 2 on weekends since my kids are 8 and 10. The key is what he's doing on those other days. During the week we keep it way lower. Also helps if you do something active with him Sunday evening so he doesn't spiral into gaming mode.

Honestly 2 hours on weekends is reasonable if he's active the rest of the time. The real issue is what happens when he asks for 3 hours next month. You gotta set the boundary now and stick to it.
