My 7 year old does homework and then wants to play some game on the iPad for like 30 minutes before dinner. Teacher says he's doing fine in school, not falling behind or anything. Wife thinks it's too much screen time but I figure one game session isn't the worst thing. What do other parents think is reasonable?
Could be worse, man. At least he's gaming after homework is done instead of before. My kids would rather do that than help me with yard work anyway so I'll take the quiet 30 minutes.
That's pretty reasonable in my book. My three are always asking for more iPad time but I set a hard stop before dinner and they've adjusted fine. The fact that his teacher says he's good academically tells me you're not overdoing it.
Honestly 30 minutes seems fine if he's doing his homework and doing well in school. My kids do way more screen time than that some days and I've learned not to stress about it as long as everything else is in check.
We do 20 minutes and my daughter is satisfied. But every kid is different. If your son is hitting the homework, staying active, and not melting down when time's up, you're doing fine.
That's not bad at all. I'd worry more if it was becoming a fight every day or if he's getting anxious when you say no. Sounds like you've got a good routine going.

Thirty minutes is pretty reasonable honestly. My 8 year old gets the same deal after school - homework first, then a little screen time before dinner. The key is she knows it's coming so she doesn't fight bedtime as much.
