My 8yr old has been asking for more screen time after school. Right now we do 90 mins and I'm wondering if that's reasonable or if I'm being a pushover. He gets his homework done, has soccer 3x a week, and reads before bed. Wife thinks he should have less but I'm not sure what the standard is anymore. What's everyone doing with their kids this age?
I've been reading a lot about this and honestly the quality matters more than the quantity. Is he just grinding Roblox or is he actually building stuff and being creative? My kids play Minecraft and we found they engage way different than when they're just passively watching videos.
At 8 years old I'd say 90 mins is on the higher end but not crazy if he's doing homework and other stuff first. The real question is whether he's asking for MORE because he's genuinely into it or because he's bored and it's just easy entertainment. That's where we try to draw the line.

90 mins seems reasonable to me, but it really depends on the kid. My oldest is glued to screens if we let her, so we do 60 mins on school days and have strict cutoff times. The key thing we found is what happens after - does he transition okay or does he melt down? That's been our real indicator of whether it's too much.
