Is Discord safe for 13 year olds?

My son wants to join Discord to chat with his friends from school. I know nothing about it. Can I actually monitor what he's doing on there? What are the actual risks we should know about? Any parents letting their teens use it?

The big thing is making sure he knows you can see activity if needed, even if you don't always check. Most kids police themselves better when they know parents are paying attention.

I just went through this with my oldest. Discord itself is pretty safe for talking with known friends, but you'll want to set boundaries about who he adds and keep checking in.

Discord can be monitored to some extent but honestly it's tricky. You might want to ask your son if you can be on his server just to see what's happening, at least at first.
