Is giving your kid a smartphone at age 10 crazy?

His friends all have phones. He says he's the only one without one. I was thinking of getting him an older iPhone and really locking it down with parental controls. Good idea or am I setting myself up for disaster? What age did you guys let your kids have phones and did you regret it?

Everyone says their kid is the only one without a phone and honestly probably like three of them actually are. Could you do something in between? Like a basic phone or a tablet with limits first?

The peer pressure thing is so real. Every parent I know is dealing with this same age gap right now. Ten feels young to me but the landscape has definitely shifted.

Not crazy at all honestly. The real question is whether he's actually responsible enough and what the agreements are around it. My kid wants one so bad but I'm not ready yet.

I waited til my oldest was 12 and the eye rolling I got was real. But he also wasn't ready at 10. Trust your gut on this one.
