Is it weird that my kids don't really care about social media?

My 13 and 15 year old are way more into gaming and YouTube than Instagram or TikTok. Like they have accounts but barely post. I keep waiting for the social media drama everyone talks about but it's just not happening. My wife thinks they're lying about it but I believe them. Curious if this is normal or if I'm just lucky. Sometimes I wonder if I should be pushing them more to be social online or if this is actually better.

That's actually not weird at all. Gaming and YouTube are way more engaging for kids that age than just scrolling Instagram looking at pictures. Your 13 and 15 year old are basically using platforms that require actual interaction versus passive consumption. I'd say that's pretty healthy honestly.

Yeah I think you're fine. The social media fear is real but honestly the kids who are actually engaged in gaming communities and watching YouTube are building skills and connecting with people who share their interests. Better than being glued to TikTok all day in my opinion.

That's not weird, that's actually the smart move on their part. YouTube has better communities and gaming is way more interactive than doom scrolling Instagram. You're lucky they landed on stuff with more actual substance.

Just keep an eye on the gaming time and make sure they're getting outside and doing other stuff. But no, not weird at all. Sounds like they found their thing and it's not the worst thing a teenager can be into.

That's actually awesome. The social media obsession thing is way overblown for some kids. Sounds like yours are finding their own interests and that's healthy. YouTube and gaming communities can be way better for them anyway.

Not weird at all. Gaming and YouTube is where the actual engagement is for that age group now. Instagram is kind of dead for teens anyway, too many adults there. Your kids are doing it right.
