Just caught my 8 year old watching YouTube at 2am with his old tablet

No idea how long this has been going on. I thought he was asleep but grabbed some water and saw the glow under his door. He was watching some weird gaming streamer for hours. We took the tablet away but now he's acting like we're ruining his life and saying all his friends have better parents. Trying not to overreact but also don't want this happening again. Thinking about getting one of those parental control apps that locks devices at certain times. Anyone use anything that actually works?

That's tough to catch but good you found it. I'd say confiscate the tablet at night and maybe set up some parental controls so he can't access YouTube after bedtime. Eight is old enough to know better but they'll test those boundaries.
