Just set up Google Family Link and feeling like a spy

Finally installed Family Link on my 11 year old's phone yesterday. I can see everything - his YouTube watch history is insane, he's been watching some weird gaming content I've never heard of, and apparently he tried to download TikTok three times. We had a good talk about it instead of just shutting it all down. Feels invasive but also... I think this is the right move? Anyone else feel weird about monitoring their kids this closely or am I overthinking it?

Yeah man, that spy feeling fades pretty quick once you realize you're just trying to keep them safe. My 11 year old was shocked at first but now he gets it. The YouTube rabbit hole is real though, we had to set some limits.

Ha, I felt the same way setting up mine. But honestly it's peace of mind when they're home or at friends' places. Just talk to him about what you're seeing rather than lurking silently, makes it less weird for both of you.
