Just set up parental controls and my kid is pissed

Put some basic controls on my 12 year olds tablet yesterday - app limits, time restrictions, all that stuff. He found out and has been giving me the silent treatment ever since. I know hes upset but I think its the right move. Anyone else dealing with this? How do you explain to them why you have to do it without sounding like you don't trust them?

Yeah that's the fun part. He'll be mad for a bit but he'll get over it. You're the parent, not his buddy, and that's exactly when they need boundaries most.

This is one of those situations where you just have to ride out the storm. He's mad now but in a few months it'll be normal and he won't even think about it.

Stick with it. I know the attitude sucks but you're doing the right thing. At 12 they need guardrails even if they hate them.
