My 6 year old got an iPad and now he won't put it down

Grandparents got him one for his birthday thinking it would be educational. Now he's asking for it constantly and throwing fits when I try to set limits. I know iPads aren't evil but this is getting out of hand. He won't play with his toys anymore or go outside. I'm trying to figure out how much screen time is reasonable for a first grader. What are you guys doing? We're thinking 30 minutes a day max but he makes us feel like we're ruining his life.

Grandparents mean well but they don't have to deal with the aftermath. We had to have a real conversation with ours about this kind of stuff. You're not the bad guy for putting limits on it.

Yeah once kids get a taste of iPad they're hooked. We do 30 minutes a day max and only after other stuff is done. Sucks to be the bad guy but worth it for their development.

iPad at 6 is rough. My guys got one around that age and we basically had to set hard boundaries on screen time. It's a constant battle but necessary. What limits are you thinking about setting?

The educational part sounds good in theory until he's asking for it every five minutes. Time limits and parental controls are your friends here. Stick to your guns on this one.
