My 8yo discovered YouTube shorts and now won't put the phone down

So my son found YouTube shorts on my wife's old iPad we gave him and now thats literally all he wants to do. Im talking refusing dinner, hiding it under his pillow at night, the whole deal. We set screen time limits but he keeps asking us to unlock it. Anyone else dealing with this? How do you handle the meltdowns when time is up?
