My 9 year old wants a gaming PC

He's been asking for a gaming PC so he can play with his friends online. Problem is I don't know anything about gaming PCs and I'm worried about him spending 8 hours a day in front of a screen. What's reasonable screen time at this age? Should I get him one or am I being overprotective?
