My 9yo Wants a Phone and I'm Terrified

All his friends have phones now. He's been asking for a year. Part of me gets it, he wants to be like his friends. Part of me is horrified at what he could access. I know I can't protect him forever and eventually he'll need one. But he's 9! Is anyone letting their kids have phones that young? What precautions are you taking?
