My kid rage quit his game and threw the controller

Broke it too. Now he wants a new one but I'm thinking that was actually a good consequence for losing his temper like that. He's 12 and getting way too intense about gaming. Been researching whether video games are actually that bad for kids or if I'm just being an old man about it. Looking for some real talk here.
