So my oldest turned 12 last month and we finally caved to the peer pressure. He's had a Pixel 7a for about 6 weeks now and honestly? It's been way less dramatic than I expected. Here's what actually matters:
- Screen time limits in Digital Wellbeing work, but he can still find workarounds (he's smarter than me)
- Group chats with his soccer team are actually useful
- He tried Discord for gaming - we set it to friends-only and it's been fine
- TikTok we're blocking entirely, I just don't trust it
The hard part is not being a control freak about it. He's a good kid and I have to trust that. But yeah, first phone at 12 feels right for us. Anyone else in this age range dealing with similar stuff?
