Parental controls on iPhone - what actually works?

Trying to set up limits for my 13 year old but every time I think I have it locked down he finds a workaround. Is Screen Time actually effective or am I wasting my time? Should I just trust him more or is that naive? Would love actual advice from people dealing with this age.

If he's tech savvy enough to get around it he's tech savvy enough to understand the why. My 13 year old and I set limits together now and he actually sticks to them because he had input.

13 year olds are basically hackers. My son figured out how to bypass Screen Time in like a week. I had to switch to using actual router settings and limiting data access. Takes away his workaround options.

The iPhone parental controls are kind of a joke honestly. What worked better for us was having the actual conversation about why limits exist and making him part of the solution instead of just locking him out of everything.
