Phone addiction in teenagers is real and scary

My 15 year old got his first smartphone last year and it's like a switch flipped in his brain. We can't eat dinner without him checking Instagram. He has his phone in his room at night despite my rules and I catch him texting at 1am. His social media is all performative and he's constantly comparing himself to other kids. I took his phone for a week as punishment and the meltdown was worse than anything I've ever seen. I genuinely think these devices are addictive by design and I'm trying to figure out how to parent in a world where I'm the only one setting boundaries. Any advice?
