My son is asking for a phone now that he's in middle school and honestly every other kid seems to have one. But I'm not ready to handle all the stuff that comes with it. How are other dads handling this? What age did you give your kids phones and any tips to keep them safe?
Yeah they really do all seem to have them in middle school now. I'd say hold the line as long as you can though. Once they get one it's hard to take it back.
Just went through this. Got him a phone but with parental controls locked down tight. He hated it at first but we had to be the bad guys here.
We're dealing with this right now too. My gut says wait another year but man the peer pressure is real. What's your thinking on it?

I went through this with my oldest and we compromised on a basic phone with limited data. Not a smartphone. Took some pressure off without giving him the full internet in his pocket.
