PSA: Limit Fortnite voice chat or your kid will hear things

My 11yo had his mic on in a squad match last week and I overheard a grown man drop several F-bombs and some genuinely disturbing stuff. I thought the game had built-in filters but apparently not with crossplay? Anyway, he's on party chat only now with just his friends from school. Just a heads up to any dads out there who think voice chat is fine because "the game is rated T for Teen."

Honestly this is such a good PSA. A lot of parents don't realize that voice chat is even ON by default. My kid's friends have way stricter parents who just assume their kids are in a silent mode.

This is why I made my kids play with the game chat off from day one. They can talk to their friends via Discord or a private party. The randos online are exactly like you described.

The worst part is trying to explain to your kid why adults are acting like that. Mine asked if everyone who plays games is angry and I had to clarify that no, just internet people are different.

Yeah the voice chat thing is wild. My 9yo asked me what a certain word meant after a match and I had to have the talk way earlier than planned. Now I just disable it completely and he does party chat with his actual friends instead.

Did you report the guy? I know it won't do much but Epic is at least supposedly cracking down on voice chat toxicity. Probably won't help but worth a shot.
