Quick question: does anyone use YouTube Kids?
Considering it for my 4yo. Does it actually filter the weird stuff or is it just YouTube with extra steps?

I use it but I think of it more as "curated YouTube" than a total fix. The weird stuff is less common but def still there. I end up building a custom watchlist for my kids (PBS Kids shows, actual educational stuff) and just ignoring the trending section entirely
lol "extra steps" is the perfect way to describe it. It's like they're trying to make YouTube parental-controls-adjacent without actually committing to real filtering
It's better than regular YouTube but it's absolutely not foolproof. My 5yo somehow found a video of someone opening mystery boxes that was clearly designed to trigger the algorithm into recommended videos. Just... be in the room when they're watching is honestly the real answer

YouTube Kids still lets some weird stuff through if you're not careful with the settings. The algorithm is still pushing content that's technically "kid-friendly" but weirdly intense. I'd recommend manually curating a watchlist rather than letting the "auto-generated" recommendations run
